LED strips advantages and disadvantages
LED tapes have been popular for many years on the market. We mentioned them here.
The high sales results of LED strips have many advantages, which today we will thoroughly analyze and combine with the disadvantages (yes, LED strips also have disadvantages).
Simple assembly
How to say the slogan of a popular Scandinavian store "Be a hero in your home". When mounting LED strips, you can even become a superhero because it does not require special electrical skills. LED strips are equipped with a PCB backing, which is glued with adhesive tape. The manufacturer expects us only to clean the surface on which the tape is to be found. After thoroughly degreasing the space, stick the tape and it's ready!
Energy efficiency
LED strips, unlike traditional light sources, are free from elements harmful to us and the environment. They are energy-efficient and their use does not stretch our budget. We wrote about the ecology and energy efficiency of LED light sources in a separate post.
Variety
With the development of the lighting market, we have more and more types of LED strips to choose from. The times of one offered color have gone irrevocably. Today, when entering the store, we pass departments, where a whole range of lighting awaits us. Of course, if we do not find anything suitable then we can get an RGB LED driver, which will allow you to choose the color of light and lighting! Manufacturers constantly outdo each other in ever newer and more interesting possibilities to guarantee us the highest level of comfort in using lighting.
Strength
For the sake of undemanding shapes and small dimensions, LED strips are very durable and resistant to mechanical damage. They do not have glass elements, so they are safe to use. In addition, LED strips in the gel are available, with increased moisture protection.
The disadvantages in relation to the number of advantages for LED strips are low. However, just like in life, the balance must also be maintained in the lighting, so I would like to invite you to balance the opinion about LEDs.
Intensity
The intensity of light we get with the LED strip is not big enough to be the main source for lighting the room. Such use of LED strip could have fatal health effects on our eyes. This type of lighting is mainly suitable for illuminating a room, shelves, showcases, countertops, etc.
Warming
Contrary to appearances, LED strips can heat up, which over time lose light, and in extreme cases burn (which, of course, we do not wish anyone). This can be prevented by investing in high-end tape and ensuring proper ventilation. If you prefer to protect yourself against an unwanted failure, you can mount LED strips to an aluminum strip or aluminum profile that will dissipate heat from our light source.
Assembly
But he was in the advantages! Yes, because the installation of the LED strip is also its disadvantage and advantage. How?
The assembly of the adhesive tape seems to be very simple, but in order for the tape to stick properly, remember to reliably "decrease" the mounting surface. However, the glue in which LED strips are equipped will not work on any surface. It is worth asking your advisor in the store before buying so you do not overpay. Choosing the right tape for the surface can sometimes be much more difficult than we think.
